Your resume is your first introduction to a potential employer. If it doesn't grab their attention, shout out that you have what they are looking for or doesn't pass the ten-second test, your resume will go in the pile with the hundreds of other resumes.

 

Traditional resumes are worthless.

Actually that isn't exactly correct. It should be traditional resumes are absolutely worthless. Candidates are using 20th century style resumes and expecting 21st century results. It won't happen.

As the economy softens and unemployment increases there will be fewer jobs. Candidates will be submitting resumes to these jobs in record numbers. As executive recruiters we are already seeing a significant increase in the number of resumes we receive. Few, however, get our attention. Why?

  • Because there is nothing compelling about most.
  • Because most all read the same.
  • Because the format is hard to follow.
  • Because critical information is missing. (This is easy to fix and one of the biggest issues)
  • Because there is so much useless information, we can't find the relevant information.
  • Because they are all about you.

This list could go on and on. These are easy fixes and generally the candidate isn't even aware of these issues. Most candidates ask a few friends to review their resumes, maybe a business associate, or former boss. Fine but these aren't the right professionals. They are sincere and have great intentions but they can't give you an expert's review. We are experts and willing to share all of our knowledge with you to ensure your resume gets noticed.

Yes, that is the biggest reasons why most resumes never get past human resources or the screener. The focus of the resume is what you think is important and all about your skills and experiences. This type of resume worked in the 20th century but is no longer effective. We will show you how to get away from the "all about me" resume and get the focus where it should be.
